Thursby, Jacqueline S. "Living Folklore: An Introduction to the Study of People and Their Traditions (Book Review)." The Journal of American Folklore 124, no. 493 (2011): 239-40

Living Folklore is Living folklore is a comprehensive, direct introduction to folklore, as it is life, sharing and practice in contemporary Settings. Drawing on examples from different American groups and experiences, this paper provides students with a strong foundation -- from the history and major terminology of the field to theories and interpretive methods. Living folklore transcends genres and categories and encourages students new to the field to view folklore studies as a unique way to understand people, communities, and daily artistic exchanges. This book can help with my research on helping me understand and have more information to describe how paper cutting as folklore art is important in Chinese culture and life.

In this article, the author has explained the ethnic traditions and radicalism, the author describes the work with local people has been in solidarity and coalition was a pleasure, and illustrate how the local people guided the Philadelphia folklore project, and the author has illustrated different scholars in folklore. This article can help me understand more about how folklore change in society.

Packaging culture is national and contemporary. Under such a cultural background, how to understand the relationship between traditional paper-cut art and modern packaging design has become the focus of people's attention. To reflect and summarize all aspects of Chinese ancient traditional art, to make modern packaging design full of nutrition from excellent traditional culture, will help to develop the road of design with Chinese characteristics.

"Shape-based image retrieval of Chinese paper-cutting using RBFNN with the invariant moment." In 2010 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics, vol. 2, pp. 808-814. IEEE, 2010.

The computer-aided design (CAD) system of Chinese traditional paper cutting provides important help for folk artists to create exquisite handicrafts. However, a large number of paper-cut patterns has brought several major challenges to the management of the online pattern library. Artists can easily collect favorite pattern materials and share their creative works with others using an online pattern library. To provide a resource-rich online database, an appropriate image descriptor and an effective content-based image retrieval (CBIR) strategy are required. We propose to combine the invariant moment descriptors of paper-cut patterns with radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) and train the neural network by minimizing local generalization error (LGEM), so as to provide CBIR function for the retrieval of paper-cut patterns. Experimental results show that this method is superior to the method based on similarity

The paper-cut craft is a part of folk culture and art tradition in the world. From the point of view of computer graphics, paper cutting can be regarded as a method to construct double layer images under a set of geometric connectivity constraints. This paper presents a composition method of digital paper cutting design. The elements of the design can be images, which are processed by multi-layer threshold operations, or arrays generated by the program of shapes. The element is composed of a set of Boolean operators that hold the connection. The resulting design is well suited to a new generation of cheap computer peripherals.
